A Perilous Future
Written And Posted January 20, 2001
As of this writing, it is now just minutes before George W. Bush is
sworn in as the new President of the United States. For Christians, it
is a moment of importance because George W. Bush has professed his faith
in Christ. For Christians, "one of us" is in the White House.
There is the temptation to rejoice because we may believe evil has been
defeated. There is the temptation to believe that Satan has "got
his".
We must not be deceived, Satan is not dead. Satan has not been
defeated. At this moment in world history, Satan has not been defeated,
but he is at least now openly opposed. It is this matter of open
opposition that should cause all of us to pray deeply. We must all pray
for peace and righteousness to prevail in all parts of the world.
When Satan is openly opposed, expect a firestorm of a counter attack
by Satan. During the last eight years in the United States, the forces
of darkness and evil were NOT openly opposed by persons who held the
highest positions of responsibility in the U.S. government. When leaders
of a family, county, city, state, or nation do not openly oppose evil,
darkness, and unrighteousness then the power of evil will flourish.
Unopposed evil and ignored darkness eats its way into the fabric of
lives like cancer eats its way into the physical body. Eventually,
unopposed evil and darkness takes down the body of its host, whether the
body is a person, family, county, city, state, or nation. Sin and evil
work best in the darkness by secretly deforming and decaying the soul.
On this historic day, we must all pray that sin and evil will be
openly opposed by the new President and his administration. In the face
of open opposition to sin and evil, we should all expect the very worst.
On a day when we should expect a bright new beginning in the United
States and around the world we must realize there is, at this time in
history, a looming storm of evil ready to reign down upon us. The Middle
East is ready to explode into a war that can escalate into a full-scale
nuclear war that can engulf the whole world. The threat of nuclear and
biological terrorism that can kill millions at one time is a moment to
moment crisis waiting to happen. Russia, China and Cuba have formed new
alliances to oppose the influence of the United States in the world. New
diseases pose a threat that can become a vast plague upon humanity. The
scourge of abortion, the tragedy of out of wedlock births, the continual
enslavement of millions to alcohol and drugs are present dangers.
The threat of economic collapse in the industrialized world is becoming
increasingly real as each day passes.
At the very moment of this writing, during the inauguration
ceremonies, Franklin Graham is now offering a prayer for our nation and
a prayer for our new administration in Washington. Let us all join our
hearts as one for our nation, our new administration, and for our world
At this moment, newly sworn in Vice President Richard Cheney just
repeated the words "…all enemies foreign and domestic…"
during his swearing in ceremony. The words in the oath are there because
there are indeed enemies of our nation and our ideals. At this moment in
history, do you think Satan will turn tale and run away? Do you think
Satan will cower before our hearts?
At this moment, a peaceful transfer of power has taken place in
Washington, D.C. as our new President, George W. Bush, has just been
sworn in as the new President of the United States of America.
Do you think the satanic forces that lurk in the hearts of humanity
will now go away in peace? The terrible and dark answer is
"NO!" for the darkness has not been defeated. The darkness
lurks this day to take down our nation and the lives of our citizens.
The darkness lurks this day to destroy the world.
However, the great news this day is not that a new President has been
installed into office. The grim news is not that satanic forces will win
some temporary victory. The great news this day is that Christ died for
you and every other person on earth. No matter what victories on earth
Satan might win, it is Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord, who has won the
ultimate victory for all of us if we but claim it.
We must not face the future with dread nor trepidation. No matter
what the darkness might try to do, the darkness will not win. No matter
what the future holds, the future belongs to those who have accepted
Christ as their Lord and Savior.
1 Corinthians 15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O
death, is your sting?"56 The sting of death is sin, and the power
of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)
1 John 5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his
commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the
world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is
the Son of God. (NIV)
