About a troubling conscience…

Psalm 38:18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. (NIV)

The Psalmist has the most beautiful of attitudes and thoughts. He writes that he confesses his falling short and that he is troubled. True confession begins with a conscience bombarded by thoughts that make the conscience feel the pain. We are able to survive as a race of beings and as individuals because we have a responsive conscience. When we do not have a conscience that stabs our heart and soul, we are doomed. Our jails and prisons are overflowing with persons who have little conscience. They are not troubled by their sin. They are troubled by their incarceration. In your own life, you must always pray for a super-sensitive conscience that responds to the Lord’s touch, the Lord’s wisdom, and the Lord’s guidance. You and all the rest of us must be like the Psalmist and say that we are troubled by our sin and then give thanks because our conscience guides us.
