About
accepting the idea of sin…
Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou
eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (KJV)
Many
persons have difficulty accepting the idea of sin. Many persons have difficulty
accepting there is evil in the world. Many persons have difficulty accepting the
fact people do evil things. Unfortunately, not accepting evil as a reality
permits people to escape the fact they are sinners. If we accept we are sinners,
if we accept we are fallen, and if accept we are in a pit from which there is no
escape, then we must also accept it appears there is no hope and no way out of
our pit. Indeed, there is no earthly hope when we face physical death because we
will all die. Our body is not immortal. Our body is not immortal because Adam
and Eve wanted the knowledge of good and evil and when Adam and Eve disobeyed
God and suddenly possessed the knowledge of good and evil, death and sin
possessed them just as death and sin possesses us. However, we are not in the
pit without hope.
While
we are in our pit, in our pit of sin and death, there is for us a great and
loving hand scarred from the nails of crucifixion we nailed into that hand…a
hand reaching down to us to pick us up. There is a nail-scarred hand reaching
down to pick us up not just out of the pit, but pick us up to carry us to
eternal paradise. The great and loving hand so scarred by the nails of His cross
belongs to our friend and Savior, Jesus Christ.
