About adding worldly things…

Luke 12:29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)

Are you seeking the kingdom of Heaven in a world of glamour and glitz? Are you seeking the kingdom of Heaven in a world full of pain and suffering? On one hand, when our faith is strong and our lives are in one of those phases where everything falls into place, we are not so concerned about the kingdom of Heaven. On the other hand, when we are hungry and thirsty we think only about our hunger and thirst. When we are penniless and wonder how we will buy a new pair of shoes because our old pair has worn out and our feet are aching, God is not always our first thought. On the two extremes of economic life we have reasons to think first about ourselves and not give much of a thought about God. What Jesus is revealing to us in this verse from Luke is a truth many people miss regardless of the condition of their pocketbook. What Jesus is revealing is that seeking the kingdom of God, day and night, every minute, and every hour brings with the seeking action a hidden benefit. When you seek the kingdom of God first and you put God first, you are more able to handle all the stresses of life and you are more able to handle the financial necessities of life. When you seek God first and you put God first, you can do more with less and earn more with what you have.
