asking for daily bread… Proverbs 30:7 "Two
things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and
lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily
bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the
Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. (NIV) The Lords prayer talks about the wealth of daily bread. This verse from Proverbs points out why we should only ask for daily bread. The prayer for our daily bread is a prayer for God’s continual care and substance. Satan puts upon us many falsehoods and lies about money and wealth. Satan wants us to accept the lies about money and wealth as a way to tempt us jump into the pit of sin. However, the Lord’s truth sets us free. The Lord’s truth is this…neither poverty nor wealth prevents us from falling into sin. On one hand, poverty creates crime. Poverty creates crime by the seeking of money and power in illegal ways. Poverty creates gangs and gangsters. On the other hand, wealthy and powerful persons who want more wealth and power fall into temptation and commit crimes seeking more wealth and power. However, if we will learn to live with our daily bread and seek only our daily bread from God, we will not fall into the pit of sin created by either poverty or wealth. If you will live with a thankful heart giving God praise for even the smallest of blessings, the Lord will watch over you. He will bless you. He will keep you. He will supply your daily bread.
