Previous Daily Devotional About our attentiveness to God's commands Isaiah 48:18 If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea. (NIV) When we live according to God's rules in life, great things happen for us. When we live according to our own selfish and sin-based rules, disaster is sure to follow. When we study the words of God to absorb their wisdom and truth into our life we lead a successful life. When we ignore the words of God and we ignore the wisdom and truth of God, our life is bound for failure. The commands of God are given to us to help us prosper in this life and prepare to see Christ when we die. When we do not follow the commands of God, then the rules or laws of man take over our life and we lose our freedom. Our instincts as human beings are to go our own way and follow our rules and commands rather than following God's commands. What we must remember is that disobedience to God leads to the imprisonment of our soul. When our soul is imprisoned we end up living a severely diminished or imprisoned life. The way out of a severely diminished or imprisoned life is to follow new rules and commands God's rules and commands. When we decide to follow God's rules and commands we must then open our heart to His love. We must also open our mind to His truth. When we decide to follow God's rules (or be holy), our eyes are opened and we can see that Christ died for us, even when we were and are living in sin and shame. When we live according to God's commands and we are holy, we see God's beauty in the world and we see His beauty in others. |
