About being God's servant and witness…

Acts 26:16 …I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you. (NIV)

In our world that tries to make us believe our main job in life is taking care of ourselves first, God's mission and work for each of us is to be His servant and witness on earth. At first glance, the idea of God wanting servants sounds pretty pathetic. At first glance, it sounds as if God is this incredible egomaniac who wants everyone to scurry around devoting their life just for Him at their expense. However, if we look deeper at the issue of our being a servant and witness, we see our service for God is for our own renewal, for our own benefit, and for our own good. God is not an ego-filled being as we understand ego-filled beings in this world. God is a being of love. God is a giving being who seeks to give His love to each of us. God is the opposite of egomania. God's purpose and will in our lives is to rescue us from the dangers of our own egomania. For when we are born, we are born with a void within us that is naturally filled with our own selfishness and our own will. However, this void within us, through an unnatural act of our will of turning away from our emptiness results in our being filled with infinite love, infinite understanding, and infinite compassion. The source of our infinite love, our infinite understanding, and our infinite compassion is God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
