About being pardoned…
John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him
who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from
death to life. (NIV)
Our lives can be pretty ratty. Not only do we face the horrors of terrorism,
crime, violence, and temptations that can destroy us, but we also face the grim
reality of our personal death. Not only do we face the grim reality of our
death, but we also face the grim reality of going through pain and suffering
before we die. It is as if we are all on death row, not knowing the day, hour,
or minute they are going to come to take us for our execution. The reality is
that we ARE on death row. We, for the most part, do not know the day, hour, or
minute of our death. We are all condemned to die. We are, in fact, condemned to
die in our body, but our souls, our persons, our identities, our consciousness,
the very part of us that we refer to as "I", "me", and
"mine", is not going to die. But wait. There is something else going
on. There is good news. The most important news of all time is that we can have
eternal life after our body goes to sleep in death. Not only can we have eternal
life for our conscious minds, but we can have an eternal life in a place of
beauty, wonder, happiness, serenity, and love. We are truly not condemned. We
have indeed, crossed over from death to life. We make that journey of crossing
over from death to life while we are still alive on earth by believing Christ
died for each of us individually. We make that journey from death to life while
we are still alive on earth by coming to the foot of the cross of Christ and
fully understanding the dark and evil part of who we are put Christ on the
cross. We make the journey from death to life by asking Christ to forgive us for
what we did to Him. We make the journey from death to life by accepting Christ
into our heart and turning away from the sin that has put all of us on death
row. No, we are not condemned. We have been pardoned, and if we accept Him, we
shall have eternal life with Him.
