being still and listening to God… Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know
that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the
earth." (NIV) We talk. We talk and talk some more. In prayer we talk. In our mind we talk. However, do we ever listen? Do we ever listen to God? Do we somehow think it is arrogance to listen to God and hear God speak? In truth, everyone can hear God’s voice but we cannot hear His voice if all we do is talk. We cannot hear God with a mind full of the world. We cannot hear God with a mind full of worldly worries. We cannot hear God if our mind and heart are full of thoughts about ourselves and our problems. In our world full of so much woe, being still so we can listen to God is more difficult than we might think. However, it is vital we learn to quiet down our heart and mind, because God is in our stillness. We may find it hard to quiet our minds to listen to God because our minds are too often on ourselves and on our selfish issues. However, we can all learn to be truly unselfish. We can all learn to truly forget about ourselves and think only upon God and His love for us. In our quiet times, when we still the selfishness in our mind we will find quiet peace and in this quiet peace we can let all of our thoughts go only to God. When we still the roaring lion of selfishness in our heart we can hear the gentle voice of God. In our quiet time with God, we must not be full of questions for God or be full of questions about God. In our quiet time with God, we must be full of praise and thanksgiving for all He has done for us. Then, whether we hear Him or not, our praise and worship in our quiet time will give us all the love God could ever say or speak to us.
