Previous Daily Devotional About building a life 1 Corinthians 3:10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. (NIV) Every day you build your life. What you have today was built yesterday. What you have tomorrow will be the result of what you build today. In our humanity, we would prefer that what we do today would have no connection to tomorrow. In our humanity, we want a disconnect between our thoughts, feelings, and actions and what happens to us. However, the truth is that we live in the house we build. When we build a house resting on the foundation of Christ, we receive a shelter from the storms of life. When we build a house built upon the blueprint of Christ's call for sacrifice and humility, no earthly power can destroy what we build in Christ's spiritual realms. The daily decisions we make resound throughout our lives. When we decide to forgive rather than seek to get even, we clean out the darkness from our job site. When we choose to love in spite of many sorrows, we put in place unshakable beams to hold up our life for all eternity. If your heart is willing and surrendered to Christ's will, the trials and adversities of each day can serve as the mortar. Your humility in Christ can serve as the trowel. Your pain and suffering can serve as the muscle. Your surrendered heart can serve as the conduit for Christ's plan that builds your house upon the solid rock the solid rock Himself. |
