Previous Daily Devotional About the burden of grief… Isaiah 35:10 and the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. In grief, we grieve for what has been taken. In grief, we grieve for what has been lost. In grief, we long to change what we cannot change. In grief, we long to make things as they were in the past. However, we often cannot change what we have lost. What then are we to do? It is easy to say we are to pick up the pieces but picking up the pieces is often not our real issue with grief. Our real issue with grief is the pain of our grief in the present and the pain of our grief on into the future. The pain of grief can be unbearable. However, we are not alone in our grief. We have someone who is with us to comfort us in our sorrow. Jesus is with us when we grieve. Jesus is with us to help us, comfort us, and show us He loves us when we grieve. Jesus is with us to give us a new vision of tomorrow…a vision of tomorrow when our grief will be gone. Jesus is with us to give us a new vision of tomorrow when our grief will be replaced by boundless joy. When we let Jesus show us our joy of tomorrow, our grief ebbs away. Slowly but surely, when we see our joy of tomorrow, our future joy replaces our present grief. Over time, the glimpses of our joy-filled future begin to replace the grief of our present. Over time, our present is filled with more and more moments of His joy and peace…until someday there is no more grief, just boundless joy.
