Christmas Daily Devotional About mysteries beyond our knowledge Matthew 2:9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. (NIV) In December of 2001, we live in a technological world under threats of evil. We depend so heavily on our technology and consider our technology so powerful that it would seem the integrated chip has become like a god. The Magi or wise men, who had traveled from another part of their known world in search of the newborn Christ, ended up following a moving star. Even the common people of those times knew that stars and lights did not move in the sky under these kinds of conditions. Yet, these men who were not simpletons, were doing a very simple thing. These men were following a moving star. They trusted in God to let His mysterious actions lead them. In our techno-world, we must learn to trust God. In a world that prides itself on being able to invent itself around every problem, we must realize there are problems that fully require God's power and intervention. As of this writing, in December 2001, Bethlehem is not open to visitors because of the continuing crises in the Middle East. There are difficulties in our lives and in our world requiring that we invest our trust in God. The birth of Christ is God's way of telling us to trust Him. |
