Previous Daily Devotional About
the chains of sin… 2 Cor. The Garden of Eden was a place of freedom. However, the Garden turned into a place of rebellion by mankind. Freedom requires taking responsibility to preserve the freedom. When responsibility is thrown away by choosing to sin, the chains of slavery are put upon us by the sin we commit. Sin makes us slaves to our basest desires, slaves to our cravings, and slaves to our wants and needs. If we do not care about our sin, we doom ourselves to being enslaved, and there is no rescue for us if we do not turn away from the sin. If we do not care about our sin, there is no freedom from the shackles put on us by sin. When we let sin come in and take control of our heart, our life, and our body, then our ability to choose or our ability to be free disappears. If we want to be free, we can throw off the chains of sin. However, to throw off the chains of sin we must be distressed about our sin. We must be repulsed by our sin. We must be cringing in utter revulsion at our rebellion from God’s will. When God sees we want to turn away from our sin by being repulsed at who we have become, He is good, kind, and compassionate. When we indeed actually to turn away from our sin, we can look up to Christ hanging upon the cross. On His cross, Christ gave up His life to give us freedom from the slavery of living in our sinful darkness. When we awaken to the truth about what sin does to us, when we awaken to the reality of how sin destroys our life and the life of others, God can give us the power to change. God can give us the power to become a totally new person with new freedom and a new heart beating within us…a heart beating for Christ and not for ourselves, when we give our life to Him.
