About obedience and trust Matthew 2:13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." (NIV) God willed that Joseph be the stepfather of Jesus. We need not have a deep theological explanation to see why. Joseph took the words from God as an order to be followed. Joseph did not wrangle with God about the how's, when's, why's, and so on. Wonderful Joseph followed the will of God without question. Each of us needs to learn to trust and obey God without wrestling with Him. We live in a world where terrorism is a reality. At the time of Christ's birth, the slaughter of innocent babies, because Christ was born, was also a reality. As we do the Lord's will, we must not expect some kind of earthly payment, for Christ knows our burdens and He will surely reward us in His own way and in His own time. We must try to learn this very difficult lesson of obedience and trust. We must try very hard to do His will without question and consider His will to be an order, not a request. |
