Previous Daily Devotional About acceptance and being born again Matthew 1:20 because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (NIV) In Joseph's dream sequence in this story of Christ's birth, the focus of the story goes from Joseph to the message from the angel. What is clear in the words of this verse is that Mary is now carrying a child of God rather than a child of man. When the Holy Spirit touched Mary, a new person, a person of God, a person that was both human and God was conceived. Remarkably, when you let the Holy Spirit touch you, within you a new person is conceived and when you turn away from your human nature of sin and turn toward Christ hanging upon the Cross, a new person will be born. In the Christian faith we call your second birth process, being reborn or being born again. The parallels between the conception of Christ within Mary and the conception of a new person within you at the touch of the Holy Spirit are profound. In you, when you are reborn, a new person emerges at the behest of the Holy Spirit. In the Christmas story course of events, Mary was willing to accept the will of God in these matters. Joseph, who was more than a minor player in this story, was also willing to accept the will of God in these matters. You too, when your day of being born again comes about, must be willing to accept the will of God in all matters. |
