This verse is not about an intimate relationship between Mary and Joseph. This verse is about Joseph's love for God and Joseph's love for Mary. This verse is about true reverence. This verse is about true honor and devotion. This verse is about making a personal sacrifice. This verse is about putting God and others first in your life before you ever think of yourself. This verse is about being obedient. This verse is not about just going through the motions of what we should do or not do. This verse is about how all of us should act in love toward God and toward one another all the time.
