Previous Daily Devotional For The Christmas Season
About an example for all men and women Matthew 1:18 pledged to be married (NIV) From the Christmas story in Matthew, we not only know the names of the parents of Jesus, we also know they were engaged to be married. Many parts of the Christmas story could have been left out. However, it is important to know Mary and Joseph were engaged. These two ordinary people were caught up in the most extraordinary event of the world and the important fact to be remembered is they remained true and faithful to each other and true and faithful to God. Joseph had every legal and moral reason to not stand by Mary. But because Joseph was a true man of God, Joseph stood by Mary in a time in Mary's life when she needed someone to believe her and trust her. From the biblical account, we have every reason to believe the bond remained strong and ironclad between Mary and Joseph throughout the life of Jesus. What we must remember here is Christ remains true and faithful to us and He wants us and expects us to remain true and faithful to Him in return. The same strong and ironclad bond that existed between Mary and Joseph is to be an example for all men and women who are to be married. The same strong and ironclad bond that existed between Mary and Joseph is also to be an example of how each of us is to remain true and faithful to Christ no matter what the circumstances might be in our life. |
