Previous Daily Devotional About our Savior Matthew 1:21 because he will save (NIV) One must wonder how much of this most profound of statements Mary and Joseph understood. Like us, they perhaps understood very little about the full meaning of Christ's role in the salvation of the human race. In this most profound of statements we see the destiny of Jesus was written before His birth. What God must have felt when God determined the destiny of His only begotten Son! What agony, torment, and sorrow for a parent to create a child knowing the child must immeasurably suffer for all mankind! What beaming joy there was in the heart of God knowing in advance that mankind would, through His only begotten Son, find a hope not possible on earth or in any part of earthly life! For in our humanness and earthly life we are all hopelessly lost and we are all hopelessly condemned. But wait, we are not hopelessly lost, nor are we hopelessly condemned. There was born to us a Savior. A Savior who will suffer our punishments for us rather than seeing us suffer what we justly deserve A Savior who will take our inequities upon Himself only because He loves us without measure A Savior, who during His maturation and growth into an adult, did not change in innocence from the babe in the manger. |
