Previous Daily Devotional For The Christmas Season About trusting God in all ways and in all circumstances Matthew 1:18 but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. (NIV) The story of Mary and Joseph could have been left out of the Christmas story. The idea that Mary became pregnant out of wedlock while she was still a virgin, while she was pledged to be married to Joseph, and that she remained a virgin until Jesus was born, strains credibility. No, it does not strain credibility if you are a Christian believer. However, this part of the story does strain credibility if you are not a Christian believer. If a girl or woman came to you today, let's say a girl or woman you know well, perhaps your best friend, and told you a story of still being a virgin but being pregnant, you would not believe her. You would absolutely positively not believe her if she told you she was pregnant with a child and the father of the child was God. What we must see here is how faith is required in every aspect of our life and in our relationship to God. The people who knew Mary and with whom Mary might have shared the account of how she became pregnant, the people who would have believed her, would have been people of the purest faith in God. In your walk every day with God, remember your walk is to be a walk of the purest faith. Many times and many circumstances in life require you to believe in the power of God in spite of what seems to be incredible evidence against believing. The story of Mary and the virgin birth is told to us to help us understand and have the purest faith in God in all ways and in all circumstances. |
