Previous Daily Devotional About confidence in our abilities… Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. (NIV) Some persons want God to take care of everything so they do not have to do anything themselves. This kind of relationship is not so much based upon trust as it is based upon a form of dependence. This kind of dependence is a way of shirking our responsibility to be and do all that God wants us to do and be for Him. God needs you to be strong enough to do His work and be His person while you are alive here on earth. We have to learn to trust ourselves and feel confident in our own abilities to have a healthy trust in a relationship whether the relationship is with God or with others. If we do not feel confident in our abilities, we will want God to do for us what we can do for ourselves, and sooner or later we will be disappointed in God. We will be disappointed because God does not do for us what we can do for ourselves. In addition, God expects more from us than we are often willing to deliver. In our selfishness and ego, we put our own agenda in life ahead of the agenda God has for us. We could all reach our true destination ordained by God. We could all reach His destination for us if we trusted Him enough to reach out more fully, trust more deeply, and take chances to do His work. When we reach His destination for us by doing His will then good things happen for us, for others, and for the work God wants us to get done while we are alive here on earth. |
