Previous Daily Devotional About the cry of the multitudes for faith in God… John 3:5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.' (NIV) Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (NIV) "We are the multitudes. Please hear our cry. For us, God is not a person. For us, God is only an idea, not a reality. For us, God is far off, not within us. For us, all we have is our own presence. All we have is our own thoughts. All we have is whoever it is we are." When you live in emotional or spiritual pain, it is easy to have doubts about God and about whether God is real. When you live in the painful spiritual deadness life sometimes becomes, God is indeed only an idea and not a reality. When you live in the painful spiritual deadness life sometimes becomes, God is indeed far off. However, what is truth and what is a lie does not change whether we live in painful spiritual deadness or whether our spirit is vibrant and alive. What we mean when we say we live in painful spiritual deadness is that it seems our spirit within us has died. These ideas are understandable. In truth, every person, if they are willing to admit it, can understand what it is like to be dead inside because every person on earth has been dead on the inside. However, some of us have come alive in our spirit. When we come alive spiritually, God becomes a real person living within us. When we come alive spiritually, God is not just an idea but a reality. When we come alive spiritually, God is always near to us and alive within us. Suddenly, when we have come alive spiritually, we have more than just our own thoughts to keep us company. When we come alive spiritually, we suddenly have access to the thoughts of God and if we are humble enough, we hear God speaking His words of love within our hearts. |
