Previous Daily Devotional For Christmas About doing what God tells us to do… Matthew 1:24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. We are supposed to do what God tells us to do. We are supposed to be righteous and devout. We are supposed to give, to love, to forgive, and to sacrifice. As we read the Christmas story and see it portrayed in plays and in dramatic presentations, we may get the idea Mary and Joseph somehow had it easy. As wonderful as the story and account of the first Christmas may appear to be on the surface, beneath the surface we can clearly see there was nothing easy or cushy about the birth of Christ. Would you believe a girl was expecting a baby if she told you she was a virgin? Would you believe a girl was expecting a baby if the girl told you the baby had no earthly father? Would you believe this girl who was a virgin would end up giving birth to a baby in a barn with livestock? Would you believe, even if all the facts as we know them were true, that all these facts, circumstances, and events were arranged and put in place by God? Would you believe two ordinary people would be chosen to be the major players in this incredible story doing what God told them to do? |
