About the evidence of our arrogance…

1 Samuel 2:3 "Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. (NIV)

We are to be humble and contrite before God. However, we are too often shameless in our arrogance. In the world and in our lives, we can easily see others and perhaps see ourselves as we take on the attitude we do not need God. Unfortunately, we too often think we are strong enough to handle things on our own without God. Because we have power, we too often think we can handle all things, do all things, make all things, be all things, and even change all things God has made. In our lust for power and in our possession of power, we are too often proud, arrogant, haughty, and stubborn. When we are wronged or hurt by others, we too often want revenge and we sit and stew in our hatred. To solve the problems of our life, our nation, and our world, we too often resort to killing each other with bullets and bombs rather than avoiding killing each other by seeking peace. In our arrogance, we too often strive very hard to make new ways to kill each other to get our pound of flesh or solve our problems. In our pride, we too often act as if we do not need God any more. Since God does not give us an open display of His power over us, we too often disbelieve or we live with big doubts about Him. Since God is invisible, we too often chalk up the necessity of worship as a superstitious practice by people who are naïve. In our ego, we too often do not think about Him enough. In our ego, we do not honor Him enough. In our ego we do not worship Him enough in spirit and in truth.

Precious Lord, please forgive us. We do not know what we do.
