Monday's Daily Devotional About
exerting yourself toward righteousness… Job
29:14 I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.
(NIV) In the way we live our life, we are not supposed to just sit back and let life happen. We are supposed to exert ourselves to do only what God wants us to do, to deliver only what God wants us to deliver, and to be only who God wants us to be. To live our life the right way, we are supposed to force, to push, to grind it out, to do all we possibly can and then some to be righteous and right living. However, too often we may approach our life as if the circumstances of our life "just happen" beyond our control. Too often our responses, or the way we live, are based upon things "just happening." Letting circumstances dictate who we are and how we act is not right. We are supposed to dictate who we are and how we act in every circumstance. When we have difficulty, we are supposed to be the same person in righteousness whether we have difficulty or not. Exertion is the key. We are to make maximum effort to be holy and righteous in good circumstances or in bad circumstances. Being a holy and righteous person doesn't "just happen". Being a holy and righteous person occurs because we have a willful intent to be holy and righteous. We then follow up our willful intent with actual behavior that is holy and righteous.
