Previous Daily Devotional For Christmas About fear of the unknown… Matthew 1:20…do not be afraid (NIV) Joseph was a typical person. Joseph, being as normal as anyone else, was surely afraid of the unknown. Many people today are afraid of the future for the future is unknown. In sending Jesus into the world as a newborn baby, God was showing us we do not need to be afraid of the unknown. For no matter how afraid we are of the future or the unknown, we can grasp the hand of God, even when the hand of God is only the tiny hand of His newborn Son. Fear is a normal human response especially when we feel threatened. However, when Christ came into the world, the greatest threat of all, the threat of death, had the sting of death removed. When Christ came into the world our spiritual death could come to an abrupt halt and the certainty of our everlasting life could begin for those who take Christ’s hand. Of course, all of us are human and all of us can be afraid in our humanity. However, even when we are afraid in our humanity, we can live with peace and contentment in our heart. When Christ came to the earth, there came with Him a new kind of peace…a peace within our heart and soul that casts out all our fear, casts out all our doubt, and casts out all our suspicion. |
