Previous Daily Devotional This Devotional Is Part Of A Special Continuing Series Related To Dependency And Co-dependency Issues. Rules Of Godly Common Sense Apply. About feeling safest when giving… Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, (NIV) We are commanded to be giving people. However, there can be ungodliness in what appears to be the godliest of behaviors. With respect to giving, our world would immediately implode if every person was out only for themselves and no one gave to others. Unfortunately, giving can be done for selfish reasons. If we give to make us feel safe, this means we are giving for selfish reasons. Giving to make us feel safe means we are giving to alleviate fears or insecurities within us rather than giving because we feel the love of God touching us to give. Giving for ungodly selfish reasons can have poor consequences upon others. We must remember God sees into the very heart of our nature and motivations. The purest form of giving occurs when we give only for Christ. The greatest form of giving occurs when we give sacrificially for Him. When we give, we must pray for a spirit so humble we care not one iota about what the giving will do for us. Instead, in our giving, we must care only about glorifying Christ in total humility and contrition.
