Previous Daily Devotional About finding Christ when you think you have lost Him… Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. (NIV) The title illustrates how we sometimes think. We cannot actually lose Christ, but when we lose contact with Him, the result of losing contact with Him has the same effect as losing Him. We cannot regain Christ because we do not lose Him…it just seems like we lose Him. When we find Christ after we think we have lost Him we regain our relationship with Him. We regain our relationship with Christ or we renew our relationship with Him by coming back to Him after we have gone away from Him. In our misguided attempts to live our life, we can lose our connection to God. Although there are perhaps hundreds of reasons why we lose our connection to God, regaining this connection requires revisiting our utter helplessness, our utter hopelessness, and our utter sinfulness. We can all go through wayward periods in our life. We can all think we are on the right track when suddenly the track ends and we end up sitting in the dirt with no wheels, no traction, no direction, and seemingly no God. To regain our relationship with Christ requires we go back to the beginning. To go back to the beginning means we must see ourselves and throw ourselves down at the foot of His cross in humility, in contrition, and in love for His sacrifice. Too much of the time, we may think if we have been to His cross once, we need never go back again. Too much of the time, we may think if we have surrendered our life to Christ once, we need never surrender again. Our problem here is that our ego and pride can pull us away from Christ and to repair our relationship, we must surrender our pride and ego in humility and contrition again. |
