Previous Daily Devotional About finding God today… James 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (NIV) Many people never look for God. Many people, because of the way they live their lives, are afraid to look for God. Many people are afraid to look for God because they know they have not lived like God wants them to live. When we live in sin or we lead a sinful life, we do not want to find God. We all inherently know when we are committing sins or leading a sinful life, even if we do not want to admit it. When we are leading a sinful life, we are not doing what God wants us to do, and we know it. When we are leading a sinful life, in order to come close to God and be blessed by having God alive within our hearts, there are spiritual actions we must take. When we are leading a sinful life, we must take the spiritual action of washing our hands of our sin, purifying our hearts, and being of only one mind with a resolute faith in God. When we indeed do these cleansing acts, our sinful laughter is changed to mourning and our sinful joy is changed to gloom. When we seek God with all our hearts, all our soul, and all our might, we find Him. When we find our loving God, we find Him hanging from a cross dying for each of us, as if each of us was the only person God ever created or loved. When we find our God hanging upon the cross, and when we are willing to admit it is indeed our Lord hanging there, something happens to us. When we admit we were the one who crucified Him, and we seek forgiveness in humility and contrition for crucifying Him, something happens to us. What happens to us is that He touches us, He transforms us, and He lifts us up into eternal life. |
