Previous Daily Devotional About freedom from imprisonment Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (NIV) Wherever you go in life, you take God with you. There are other ways of saying this but saying you take God with you sounds better than saying you cannot escape Him. For people who want to lead a sinful life and do only their own will, living a godly life in humble oneness with God is like living in a prison. If you are a sinful person, God represents the warden who restricts your movements and keeps you confined. This is why sin and God do not mix. Sin is what keeps you in prison. However, when we are sinners we blame our imprisonment on God. It is our own decision to lead a sinful or devout life for Christ. When we accept Christ into our heart and life we are liberated and free from the sinfulness that imprisons us. However, because we want to sin and have a oneness with God at the same time, we put the blame on God for not being with us and for not listening to us when we need Him. God is always there for us but He has conditions and restrictions about being one with Him and that condition is that we surrender up all we are and all we have to Him. In exchange for this surrender, we receive back a freedom in our heart, mind, and soul. |
