About gaining from the horror of humiliation…
John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be given you. (NIV)
When your soul has been crushed by the horror of humiliation, sometimes
repeatedly so, you do not want to rise up again. When you have been thrown into
the horror of humiliation, you are thrown into a circumstance seemingly beyond
your control. There are few times in your life when life takes on such painful
attributes than when you are humiliated. When you are humiliated, you are
forcibly humbled and forcibly shamed. Humiliation is a time when you are
embarrassed and a time when you want to run away and hide. How can such a time
as a time of humiliation be used for your gain, for your good, and for your
benefit? We can gain from the utter horror of humiliation only when we put our
humiliation in the hands of God. As difficult and as impossible as this may
seem, putting our humiliation in the hands of God is how we turn what is truly
horrifying into a time of growth, wisdom, and power. On the surface, it would
take a miracle to turn moments of your humiliation into moments of anything
resembling growth, wisdom, and power. However, you must remember, in the hands
of God, miracles happen. In the hands of God, when you put your life, your soul,
your mind, your heart, and all you can ever be into the hands of God, then a
miraculous thing happens…humiliation turns into growth, wisdom, and power…even
into love.
