Previous Daily Devotional About giving love, honor, and respect Matthew 2: 1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."(NIV) Matthew 2: 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.(NIV) If there is one lesson we all need to take away from the Christmas story it is that we are all called to worship our Savior. The Magi came bearing gifts as a form of worship. Although they could probably not communicate with the infant Jesus with words, the act of bringing gifts was a testimony to how much they honored and worshipped Him. The Magi knew from the stars that Jesus was the King of the Jews. Instead of waiting years for Jesus to establish an earthly kingdom, as a normal earthly king would do, these Magi came bearing gifts for a king who was yet a child. The gift giving of the Magi has been handed down to us. People who never darken a church door go out of their way to give gifts at Christmas time. This Christmas, renew your vows to love, honor, respect, and worship Christ. This Christmas also give love, honor, and respect along with the tangible gifts you give. |
