Previous Christmas Daily Devotional About giving to Christ… Matthew 2:10 When they saw the star, they
were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother
Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures
and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (NIV) Our tradition of giving gifts at Christmas
begins with the Magi giving Christ these most valuable of treasures. What is so
ironic is no matter how valuable a gift the Magi gave to Christ, there is no
gift as valuable as the gift Christ has given each of us. Everlasting life, for
just one person, is more precious than all the treasures in all places combined.
At Christmas, we give to one another and we should commit to giving to each
other all the time. However, unless we receive the Christ child into our lives,
our giving to others is only a hollow gesture. When we have received Christ into
our hearts then our lives overflow and beam with the brightness of His love. The gift of our repentant heart placed into the hands of our Savior is the greatest gift we could ever give Him. Nothing pleases Him more. Nothing causes Him to pour out his mercy and joyful blessings upon us more than our giving our repentant heart and life to Him.
