About giving to glorify God…

Matthew 6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (NIV)

Our ego speaks. Often, our ego screams at us to get the attention our ego convinces us we surely deserve. It is the ego, the dark place of our soul that so easily tunes in to Satanic song and it is our ego that wants us to get attention for our giving. However, we are called by Christ never to get attention for what we do, what we give, or for who we are in Him. When we receive a reward from our fellow men and women, the reward fades in the sunlight and over time the reward collects dust. When we receive a reward in Heaven by our Father in heaven, the reward is kept for us in a place where moth and rust do not destroy. To receive our heavenly rewards we must learn to turn off the ego. We must learn to give anonymously and generously. When we give to get the attention we want, our heart becomes corroded. As our heart becomes corroded and infected with the glory of our giving, we begin to think more about receiving the attention we want than thinking about the needs of those who need us. Every day we have an opportunity to do things in secret for others. We must do them. Every day we have an opportunity to do good things for others without them knowing who gave and without our knowing about the outcome of the gift...we must give anyway. To give anonymously does, in some cases, so stun the person who received the gift they are left wondering who. Perhaps when they wonder who, they will realize that it is Him who inspires, even if it is us whose hands were used to make His delivery.
