About the glory of God in humility…

Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. (NIV)

This verse from Philippians says we are to look upon others as better because we are to be humble and live in humility. The verse does not say it is all right to have an inferiority complex because an inferiority complex is the result of a damaged ego or damaged self-image. The point of the verse is we are not to have any ego to be damaged. There aren’t very many people today who look upon others as better than themselves in humility. We might see others as bigger, better, stronger, faster, or better because we are weaker. However, looking at others from a position of weakness is very different than looking at others from a position of humility. Being in humility means you have taken your own ego and selfish pride, you have taken your own problems, hurt, and pain, you have taken your own life, and you have set all this aside. You have put others before yourself. Looking at others from a position of humility means you have taken your strength and set your strength aside. Looking at others from a position of humility means selfish ambition and vain conceit have no place in your life. Even the selfishness and vanity that produces an inferiority complex has no place in your life. Where there is selfish ambition and vain conceit within a person’s heart, the darkness within the heart shows. Selfish ambition and vain conceit shows in your face and in your life. From a life of selfish ambition and vain conceit there is no radiance. However, when selfish ambition and vain conceit have been put aside in favor of humility, the glory of God produces a radiance all can see.
