Previous Daily Devotional About when God says "No" in mystery Colossians 2:2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (NIV) There is a profound mystery about God we cannot always understand or fathom. We may spend our whole life studying about God but we cannot study Him directly except through studying the life of His Son. When God does not give us what we pray for, or when He sometimes gives us the opposite of what we pray for, there can be a mystery in what God does. In truth, we cannot always know or understand the ways of God or understand the actions of God. In truth, God will do things and not do things that, to us, make no sense. We must understand God keeps His mystery for reasons that are good. We must also understand God keeps His mystery for reasons that are to help us not hurt us. When human beings could interact with God directly in the Garden of Eden, they wanted to be like Him and wanted to have His power and wisdom. Perhaps that is why He must now remain, in part, a mystery. What is not mysterious about God is that He loves you. What is not mysterious about God is that He wants only your best from you. What we know is that God loves us so much He sent His only Son to die for us so we could live with Him in Heaven forever. What we cannot easily fathom, what we cannot easily understand, what remains as our greatest mystery, is how He could love us as much as He does. |
