Previous Daily Devotional About God's gentle voice… Philippians 4:4 Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV) Your world can be incredibly mean, cruel, harsh, rude, and crude. Depending upon where you live and work, your daily life can be beset by harshness. So harsh are some person's lives, so mean and crude is their daily existence, anything that is gentle is made fun of, ridiculed, or avoided altogether. Because we live in a harsh, rude, and crude world, there is an enormous amount of personal pain and suffering. In each person's life, there is emotional and physical pain that needs to be gently touched. It is the gentle touch of God, it is the gentle voice of God that comes to us and tells us everything will work out, and everything will have a hope-filled ending. Although the world may make fun of gentleness and ridicule the gentle nature of our God, and although the world may make fun of gentleness and ridicule those of us who seek to be gentle, people need gentleness. No matter how mean, cruel, harsh, rude, and crude someone may seem to be, inside each person is a heart that deeply yearns for the gentle touch and gentle voice of God. To not be able to fully hear or experience the gentle nature of God is a result of sin. Sin comes into the heart and turns the heart stone cold. The heart remains sinfully cold and although every heart yearns to be touched by God's gentle love, each of us must turn our heart to God by coming to Christ on the cross and turning away from the darkness of sin that so plagues us. As we kneel at the foot of His cross and as we give to Christ all of our life, He speaks to us and tells us He loves us in a gentleness we cannot find in any earthly source. |
