For many people this verse is easy to read but hard to swallow. Many people truly believe that God is a person of damnation and condemnation. They believe that God can’t wait to send us into the fires of hell. God is love. Everything God does has this love component in it. If someone slides into the fires of hell, it is because they turned away from God and greased the slide of their own free will. God attracts us and we are attracted to God for only one reason. That reason is because God is love. Many people try to get what they want out of God. They plead, beg, cry, and whine to get God to deliver the goods. For these folks, God is a vending machine waiting for a prayer to be dropped in the coin slot. However, God does not deliver just because we want Him to do so. God delivers because He loves us. We should love God back whether He delivers or not.
