About the hard work for Christ…

Acts 20:35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: `It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " (NIV)

We are selfish beings with the capacity to be unselfish. Being selfish, we often think more of ourselves than we do of others. When times of pain come into our lives we are even more selfish. However, being selfish is not being godly or Christ-like. The truth is that being godly and being Christ-like is hard work because being like Christ means you are to give to others in love. When you give to others in love you are not to think about yourself. When you give to others in love you are to think about others and only others. It is blessed to work for God, but it is even more blessed to be a blessing to others in His name. Giving to others in love with no selfish intent on your part is hard to do because we are selfish. Truly putting others first in love means we put what we want on hold, we speak to others about their lives, and we keep our mouths shut about our life. Putting others first in love by being their servant means the power we possess is not used for ourselves but for others. Putting others first in love empties us of our resources and makes us tired and sometimes frustrated. Putting others first in love sometimes requires more of us than we think we have. Lastly, putting others first in love requires we firmly put God first in our heart, mind, and soul because without putting God first in love, we cannot give more than we receive.
