Previous Daily Devotional About honesty… Mark 9:24 Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (NIV) This verse contains a statement of incredible honesty. It is honest to say we have both belief and unbelief. It is honest to say we believe but we do not believe. It is incredibly honest to own up to our faults, to our mistakes, to our misgivings, and to our poor ability to believe. For if we do not own up to our lack of faith, we can never deal with our lack of faith. Our honesty in all matters reaches the heart of God and when we are honest, our honesty produces in our life a great blessing from God. For some people, it is incredibly difficult to be honest with God. Some people try to play this game of hide and seek with God, thinking they can pretend things are fine and God will not know. Some people try to keep secrets from God. Some people try to go through the motions before God. They hope by going through the motions, God will see how intent they are and their intent will make up for their lack of being honest. God needs you to be honest with Him, not for Himself, but for you. God needs you to be honest with Him so when you say you cannot believe, God will smile, and in His special way, give you the reason, the experience, and the power to believe. |
