The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. (NIV) When the world piles trouble upon us because our unfilled needs and unfilled wants slam us against the wall, we must fight back against these dark powers. We must fight back against these dark powers by reading, knowing, understanding, and most certainly doing His words. If we think about sacrifice but do not sacrifice, thinking is not enough. If we think about love but do not love, thinking is not enough. If we think about forgiving but do not forgive, thinking is not enough. Thinking is not enough because we can go through the motions of sacrifice, love, and forgiving in our mind but if our heart and spirit does not sacrifice, love, and forgive, then we have not done His word. Faith through love must not be a ritual of going through the motions. We must never permit ourselves to be content with just going through the motions if we love Jesus in faith. Doing the word of God must never be a matter of going through the physical motions with no heart or no spirit in us to give our all for Him. When we do the word of God we reach up to God in faith and in belief. We do the word of God not because we have an unfilled want or need, but we do the will of God because He loves us and we want to return a fragment of our love back to Him.
