Previous Daily Devotional About how love covers over faults 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (NIV) Love and paint are a lot alike. There is an old saying about paint that is adapted from this verse. The saying is that "paint covers a multitude of sins." When you apply a good coat of paint then all the blemishes, marks, scrapes, and even dirt gets covered over. Love works the same way as paint. When you truly love someone, you don't see the blemishes. You have heard the saying "love is blind." This saying expresses the same truth that comes from the above verse. When we repent and fall upon our knees at the foot of the Cross seeking His forgiveness, the love of Christ wipes away our sin. Christ's loving forgiveness erases forever any marks or blemishes that are on our record in Heaven. When Christ wraps His arms around you, there are no more debts to pay, for His love has cancelled them. It is because our own faults and blemishes have been covered over by His abounding love that we can also see past the faults and blemishes in others. Love does indeed make us blind to the faults of others. When we have a relationship that is not what it should be, Christ's love can heal that relationship by eliminating and erasing those faults. |
