Previous Daily Devotional About how we see ourselves… Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. (NIV) We look in the mirror and see ourselves. We look at others to see our reflection in their eyes. We look at the society around us to see if we fit in. We look at the social customs and morality around us to see if we are like others and to see if our values are acceptable. We seek approval from others. We seek platitudes and compliments from others. As the world around us slides down into the abyss of sin, do we also want to slide down with the world? Or, as the world crumbles around us, do we not want to be looking up to God and up to Heaven. We can see ourselves as we really are, doomed sinners with no hope, or sinners with the certainty of Heaven waiting. When we look at Christ on the cross, we can see our wounded Savior who was wounded by our sin, still loving us and still caring for us as He suffered and died for us. When we look at Christ on the cross, we can see our reflection in His eyes as He pleaded for our forgiveness…for we did not know what we did when we crucified Him. When we look at ourselves, we can look in the mirror and see a sinner doomed with no hope for tomorrow. Or, when we look at ourselves in the mirror, we can look in the mirror and see a sinner redeemed who can live to glorify God. |
