About a hurting heart for others Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (NIV) There are times when we do not have any words. There are times when we have a heart that hurts so bad for others that we do not have words to express our pain. When these times come, we must see Jesus in our mind's eye and in our heart. We must, in these times of crying out to God in prayer, see Him wrapping His arms around the person we pray for. We must, in the times of our weeping for another, see Him holding them tight. Sending this person up to Christ in prayer can be a miraculous gift to the person who needs the Lord's presence. We are, quite often helpless on our own, but God is not helpless to act. We are often helpless except through prayer, and pray we must. As we weep for another person, as we hurt for them, we must take our weeping and hurting to the heart of Christ. When another person is hurting, we may not be able to take away their pain but Christ can. When we are dealing with the hurt we feel for others we must also remember to open our heart and life to Christ so He can use us in whatever way He wills in this kind of circumstance. When we open our heart to Christ, when we hurt for others, He is then able to give us the ability to speak words of comfort, words of solace, and words of enduring love to soothe the pain of the person we hold in our heart. |
