Previous Daily Devotional For Christmas About lies and deceptions… Matthew 2:7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him." In the pristine and love-filled Christmas story there are lies and deceptions on the part of King Herod. No part of the life of Christ recorded in the New Testament is free of the lurking darkness He would eventually take upon Himself to the cross. The purpose of His earthly life was to give His life for your life. He did not know whether you would accept Him or reject Him. He did not know whether you would love Him or hate Him. He did not know whether you would adore Him or shun Him. Yet He willingly underwent unspeakable torture and suffering just for you. In the lovely and pristine Christmas story there is the element of the sinful evil He came to defeat. The triumph of His birth in a manger takes place in the shadow of lurking evil. The triumph of His resurrection takes place in the shadow of sin-filled persons like us who murdered Him. Every day we all make decisions. Every day we can choose to be His child and accept Him as our Lord and savior. We can also decide to turn away and stand in the shadow of sin-filled evil. We can live in a Christmas spirit all year long. However, we must do more than just live in the spirit of love. We must turn away and walk out of the shadows of sin. We must walk out of the shadows of sin and into the light of His love and grace. |
