About living holiness Matthew 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (NIV) We can read about the Lord's expectations of us from His holy word. We can attend every worship service, give countless hours to His work in the church, and give countless hours to His work outside the church. We can make public professions of our faith. We can give the appearance of living a devout life. However, no matter how great an effort we make in going through the motions of holiness, there is only one criteria God will use to measure us. God's yardstick of holiness is of supernatural dimensions and does not necessarily apply to our actions or behaviors. God's supernatural yardstick measures the depth of our desire to be holy and His yardstick measures the breadth and depth of our thoughts, feelings, and actions in being holy before Him. We can tell God we are holy but when we are not holy in thought, word, and deed, He knows the truth. We cannot merely want to be holy, for God knows our desire to be holy is only a tiny fraction of what we can give Him. When we live holiness, our thoughts are holy as we continually keep His Cross in our mind's eye and keep His will in our heart. When we live holiness, we speak to others in Christ-like love 24/7 with no thought about our own wants and needs. When we live holiness, we are truly holy in our innermost being. |
