Previous Daily Devotional Leviticus 22:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings the Israelites consecrate to me, so they will not profane my holy name. I am the LORD. (NIV)About minimal respect (To treat others, including God, with respect means we treat them with admiration, approval, and with reverence. When we respect other persons or God, we are to esteem them and pay them homage.) In these verses, God is trying to establish an aura of respect from His chosen people, the Israelites. It is evident that God understands that respect is the starting point of any relationship. As much as we need each other, to survive as a society, a group, a family, or as a world we must all respect each other. God cannot rule in the hearts of persons who do not respect Him. In this verse, God is not asking the stubborn and stiff-necked Israelites to treat God with respect. He is starting at the very bottom of the ladder of respect by asking the Israelites to treat their offerings with respect. From Gods point of view, it appears respect for Him and others is lacking in our world, yet it is fundamental to any of our relationships. |
