Previous Daily Devotional This Devotional Is Part Of A Special Continuing Series Related To Dependency And Co-dependency Issues. Rules Of Godly Common Sense Apply. About only trying to catch people in acts of misbehavior… John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (NIV) Playing some kind of "gotcha" game with others is bad news for others and bad news for us. When we continually try to catch people in bad behavior it makes others live a life of continually being on guard and defensive. Unfortunately, playing "gotcha" validates our lack of trust in others because all of us make mistakes. Trying to catch people in acts of misbehavior makes you a "policeman" of others behavior. Instead of inspiring others to be better, climb higher, and go further in their life, playing "gotcha" can keep reminding others they cannot be better, climb higher, and go further. We are to be witnesses to the love, power, and compassion of God. If we spend our life trying to catch people in their sins, the people we catch will not see the love, power, and compassion of God in us. In addition, the more time we spend trying to catch others in sinful behavior, the greater the chance we will also fall into sinful behavior. |
