Christmas Daily Devotional Day Three Of Ten About peace, love, and serenity then and nowMatthew 2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. (NIV)Jesus is born and is still at least a small child of less than two years old. What kind of threat can a two-year-old be? However, in the little part of the world we call the Middle East there is always a full panorama of good and evil waging war with each other. Herod was an anxious man. Herod was not a man of peace, of love, and of God. Unlike Joseph, Herod was twisted up with fear, anxiety, and selfishness. We could use King Herod as an example of the kind of person we should NOT be. Each of us is surrounded by persons who have twisted souls because they have not accepted Christ and His love into their hearts. These people have fears, anxieties, and cancerous selfishness at work in them. Fortunately for us, we can choose to be persons of God persons of Christ persons who have peace, love, and serenity in our hearts. |
