Previous Daily Devotional About power and trust… Matthew 21:21 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. (NIV) We do not often think of the words "power" and "trust" at the same time. However, these words and the ideas they represent are directly connected. When a person has immense power then trust seems to go in both directions. Some of the industrial titans of the last century built great industrial empires by delegating their wisdom and knowledge to others. Delegating wisdom and knowledge to others requires the ability to trust others to carry out directives and commands. Great military leaders also have the ability to delegate directives and commands. In the past, some industrial and military leaders trusted little and instilled allegiance by fear and intimidation because they did not trust the organization beneath them. Other industrial and military leaders essentially trusted the organization beneath them, showed their trust, and were able to effectively lead without fear and intimidation. If you do not trust God, if you are not able to put your life into His hands, your doubt and distrust rule your life. When your life is ruled by doubt and distrust, there are consequences to the doubt and distrust that will destroy all the other relationships in your life. However, God is a being you can trust. When you are able to trust God, He gives you power over your life you did not have before you trusted Him. |
