Previous Daily Devotional About power from weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (NIV) The way God works and the methods of God are sometimes shrouded in mystery. For some people, the mysteries about God give them a reason not to believe. For other persons, Christ and His sacrifice are accepted facts even if they do not understand the mysteries. One of the greatest mysteries about God and His power is how God can turn sure defeat into victory or turn weakness into strength. The idea of turning weakness into strength is grounded in God's call for each person to be humble. When you are weak and humble, God is then able to work through you. When you are proud and arrogant, God cannot touch your heart and you go your own way, not God's way. When you are weak, you are more willing to listen to God speak to you. When you are strong and arrogant, your own thoughts and your own voice drowned out the voice of God. When others insult a Christian or others insult what a Christian believes, the devout Christian turns immediately to Christ for strength. When others insult a non-Christian there is an immediate impulse to strike back at the insulting person or persons, thus starting a war of words. When a Christian is beset with hardships the first place a true Christian goes is to our Lord. When we turn to God, His power comes over us and although the hardship may remain, we are empowered by the love of God. Empowered by the love of God, the hardship-burdened person becomes strong in spirit. When you come upon an obstacle in life and are sure the obstacle will defeat you or stop you, your prayers to Christ are heard and answered. If the obstacle is not removed, God's love brings out the hope and promise of your life so you can see a time in the future when the obstacle will be no more. |
